Comforts of Home

Another prairie scene with barley ripening under the sun.  A perfect evening with a few clouds in the sky.

Summer's Eve

This was towards the end of the photo shoot with my father.  I wanted to stop and capture the light before the sun was setting.  Supposedly on this particular gravel road, rows of trees grew and touched together at the tops.  Making a nice shaded bridge for one to drive under. It must have been quite beautiful at one time.  Unfortunately the Government created a make work project and those trees disappeared thus leaving wide open spaces of land where one can see for miles and miles.

Prairie Gold

I have decided to explore other subject areas.  This past summer my dad and I went driving around the country side with the purpose of taking photos of landscapes.  I wanted to explore clouds and colours.  Since it has been miserable outside, I couldn't help but attempt a visual escape to a summer's eve.  The smell of barley in the evening that has baked in the hot sun is always a welcoming aroma.

Forgotten Tractor

Ok I may be slightly weird but I did enjoy painting this one.  It was a good challenge from the still life as the shapes are much more intricate.  This one I combined two photos.

Apple Crisp Anyone?

I did this one before Christmas.  The picture is not very clear and the colours of the apples are much more vibrant.  I have another still life set up that I started before Christmas and still have to do some minor touch ups therefore, I have resorted to painting from photos until I can complete my other pictures.  Presently this one is hanging at the Second Cup on Ellerslie Rd.

Apres Le Bain (after the bath)

I took this picture of my cat Minou after I gave her a bath.  The sun was setting and I really liked the abstract shapes of the shadows.  It is not entirely finished as I have some minor touch ups to do.  It will be appearing in a local magazine for animals lovers called"Creature's All"  For more information on this online magazine please visit: www.creaturesall.com

Iris

With my paints, I use a limited palette and from time to time, will interject a new colour into the mixture as an accent.  I had fun using a new blue called maganese blue.  It really adds a  nice brightness to colours.  In addition, I was playing with a palette knife to create the white borders.

Pretty In Pink

I have been sitting on this photo for awhile and decided over the holiday season to paint it.  I choose to use a linen panel to capture the delicate shapes in the petals. What inspired me to paint this one was the contrast between the sunlight flower in relation to the dark background.
